Memphis Mae’s BBQ Bistro in the unlikely Westchester town of Croton-on-Hudson fires up the pit (not to mention the wood smokers) for its smoked, grilled, barbecued or blackened seafood, fish, chicken, beef and pork. The eatery brings together barbecue techniques from the Midwest to the South, using a slow-cook, low-heat method to seal in flavor and to achieve that “meat falling off the bone” tenderness. To start, go for the house-smoked and grilled Hudson Valley sausage served with sautéed onions and peppers or the Southern take on Italian fried calamari with a barbecue rub and a smoked tomato marinara. Also worth a try is the Carolina hand-pulled-pork sandwich, or go for a meat lovers sampling of everything with the Texas brisket, Carolina pulled pork and Memphis rib combination. Those wanting to take to the water can check out the Memphis shrimp, Mississippi catfish, fried oysters and barbecue salmon platter. The restaurant presents a beer list to help wash down all the barbecue.
