Afton House Inn Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Located approximately 30 miles from the Twin Cities, this dining destination in the tiny river-town of Afton has been drawing yacht owners and couples celebrating birthdays and anniversaries for years.

Food & Drinks: An old-fashioned spirit pervades but make no mistake, the menu does not consist of grandmotherly potpie fare. We’re talking seared scallops with truffled corn sauce and micro greens for starters. Entrées cover traditional ground (filet mignon, shrimp scampi) while appealing to modern appetites (duck two ways---seared and confit---with honey-lavender demi-glace). Still, the truth is we most like coming here because this is one of the few places where they continue to do some specialty, tableside cooking. Caesar salad is prepared in front of you, and steak Diane gets flamed with brandy before your eyes. As homage to tradition, we advise ordering one of the retro flaming desserts, such as cherries jubilee and bananas Foster, which have become restaurant rarities. Afton House Inn offers a notable wine list, too.
