Young SoMa start-up employees flock to The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen for --- what else? --- grilled cheese sandwiches. But this isn't just any grilled cheese: it's gourmet. From the chewy, butter brushed Pinkie's Bakery levain (they also offer house-made gluten-free bread) to the artisan cheeses such as Tillamook cheddar and local chèvre, these hot sandwiches delight. Traditionalists may have their palates stretched by a sandwich stuffed with Fontina and Gruyère, roasted wild mushrooms and gold potatoes, caramelized onions and thyme butter. Each sandwich is delivered with a seasonal fruit --- a polite nod to our health. There's also a short selection of salads and soups (tomato is always on the menu).
