Chartres House Cafe Restaurant Review:

Creole cooking comes with a touch of history at Chartres House Café. The structure housing this restaurant was built in 1796, but even more intriguing is the fact that the café is said to have been the hangout of Tennessee Williams, among other notables. Opt for seating on the courtyard, at the candlelit bar, or in the dining rooms that feature French doors facing the street. Crawfish cakes, seafood platters, and red beans and rice are just a few of the options on the menu. Newbies might opt for the “Taste of New Orleans,” a platter featuring several traditional Creole favorites. This is the kind of spot to stop by for a good stiff drink and then stay for jambalaya, or perhaps an overstuffed fried oyster po’ boy. All of that should be followed by a piece of the too-tall chocolate cake or New York cheesecake. You won't find a fancy wine list or overly attentive service, but you will enjoy a hearty meal and plenty of people-watching. Chartres House Café is pet-friendly, even providing water bowls for the personal pooches accompanying their owners.
