Grape and Grain Restaurant Review:

As the old saying goes, never to mix grape and grain. But that doesn't mean you should fear this East Village wine bar. Inside the cozy space done up in brick, wood and wine bottles, the restaurant’s menu sticks to a tapas-like philosophy: scallop ceviche with grapefruit and fennel, baked meatballs with tomato sauce, and luscious beer-infused sausages. Pizzas are made with focaccia from the Sullivan Street Bakery. Don’t miss the pies with goat cheese and cured black olives or portobellos, roasted red peppers and garlic confit. Even with the high quality ingredients and the knowledgeable service, prices remain reasonable. This value philosophy extends to Grape and Grain’s well-curated wine list, which only has a few bottles over $40, every one of which is also available by the glass. There are plenty of wine bars in the East Village, but few have an atmosphere as sophisticated and low-key.
