Houston Street Bistro’s location between two restored theaters, the atmospheric Majestic and the jewel-box Empire, is reflected in the menu’s nomenclature. On the classic side, consider the “Tchaikovsky” crab cake with Cajun tartar sauce. Salads bear names such as “Hairspray,” which is a riff on the classic caprese. Entrées include, yes, a “Bye Bye Birdie” of chicken with Gorgonzola, an “Avenue Q” with grilled strip steak, and “Phantom of the Opera” that translates to a pork chop with mushroom Marsala sauce. At noon, Tuesday’s meatloaf doesn’t merit a theatrical moniker, but the restaurant’s mural will keep show biz front and center. Desserts include the familiar three-layer chocolate cake, tiramisu and crème brûlée.
