Memphis Barbecue Company Restaurant Review:
Distinctive to Memphis-style barbecue is that ribs come either coated with dry spice-based rubs on the surface or wet (opt for the former). Melissa Cookston's Atlanta operation brings a touch of Beale Street to the Dunwoody suburb via soft piped-in blues music and lots of Memphis- and blues-themed poster art. Options include baby-back ribs or St. Louis cut spare ribs, and the latter is our preference, although the baby-backs certainly have their fans. Medium-bodied barbecue sauces are spicy or not. Get the slaw or turnip greens with them, and don't miss the sausage-studded red beans and rice, a Memphis staple with 'cue. Consider as well the mac 'n' cheese. Pulled pork, brisket and barbecued chicken are tender, moist and smoky. Go for a brew with this fare. We suggest skipping the desserts, but if you must have one, the Mississippi Mud Pie would keep faith with the theme.
