The Old Coffee Pot Restaurant Review:

Don't count on having the best meal in town at The Old Coffee Pot, but it is a reliable standby serving okay food and dependably strong coffee. Think diesel strength, in fact. Make sure to have callas, the now rarely found New Orleans specialty rice cakes with a history going back over a century. Fried and dusted with powdered sugar, callas may be ordered with pecans, and are served with creamy grits and maple syrup. They make a memorable breakfast or could serve as a starter for one of the kitchen's over-sized egg dishes. Breakfast is served daily until at least 2 p.m. Patrons fill tables in the old building's carriageway and patio seating areas, where they tuck into such lunch and dinner favorites as red beans and rice perked up with ham and herbs. Murals of typical Southern scenes adorn the walls, and the aged architecture adds to the ambiance. The fine Bloody Marys require a substantial pepper tolerance level, so ask for a mild one if yours is low.
