Passage to India Restaurant Review:

An unpretentious 30-seater, this Porter Square purveyor of Punjabi fare offers no surprises with many versions of tikka, tandoori, pakora and curry. But that doesn't deter its many neighborhood fans, since what it does offer is kind service and full flavor at reasonable prices. Fiery chili masala and vindaloo are sinus-searers for the daring. Northern and southern Indian dishes include a crispy meat samosa turnover stuffed with lamb, potatoes and peas, and a golden lamb dosa crêpe. Lighter fare ranges from shrimp marinated in garam masala sauce to lamb mushroom, chicken curry and grilled marinated kebabs, not to mention a tandoori mixed grill. Fish curry is best enjoyed with a side of warm cheese-stuffed naan. Be sure to save room for the sweet pastry, gulab jamun, an Indian specialty, made with milk and a sugary syrup, or the rice pudding with cardamom and almonds. We also like the iced masala chai.
