Silvertone Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

Owner Josh Childs' winning formula --- solid bartending, comfort food at modest prices, and an attractively priced wine list --- draws a steady stream of post-work revelers from the Financial District and government buildings, pre-show concertgoers headed for the nearby Orpheum Theatre, and late-night collegians and hipsters. The space is dimly-lit, clean and minimalist (light wood, slate accents, concrete floors), and the vibe convivial and usually loud, especially at night. Silvertone’s menu is noteworthy for its simple salads and little extra touches not always found in bar settings. Standouts include a hearty dish of meatloaf with creamy mashed potatoes, an unusual find of lo mein noodles, and lemon and thyme-rubbed half chicken. Savvy wine lovers like the place for its bottle pricing, not the three-times-retail markup of most Boston restaurants, but a mere $10 over retail, yielding some bargains with many priced under $30. Dessert is not offered, but fun drinks like the Happy Meal, Army & Navy and Shirley Temple Black are another option.
