Sweet Basil Restaurant Review:

Just because Portland sports a Thai restaurant on almost every block, it doesn't mean they're interchangeable. Sweet Basil's menu transcends the ordinary. Try some of the Bangkok-raised chef's less conventional offerings: phad phet talay, a stir-fried combo of seafood and homemade curry paste; pad phet gai, a robust dish of pan-fried chicken with homemade curry paste, chili, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, green onions, bamboo and basil. Spice levels are patron-controlled, ranging from mild, medium, wild or extremely wild. Portions are generous. Round out your meal with pumpkin tempura paired with plum sauce and coconut noodles. Sweet Basil is unusually attractive, housed in a converted bungalow tastefully decorated with warm colors. On nice days, there's a lovely patio under a grape arbor for outdoor dining. The Tangerine Bar on the first floor offers a full menu as well as lively cocktails, beer and wine.
