Tasca Restaurant Review:

A mural of a twinkling Mediterranean village greets guests as they walk into the intimate foyer and bar area; in the dining room, burning candles surround. And for the most part, the food lives up to the romantic promise of the cozy décor. The team of Irishmen who run the place worked for years on the Spanish Riviera. The menu, which changes just enough to keep regulars interested, offers a handful of platos principales as well as tapas, but we rarely get past the latter. Try the soft taco with fried haddock, grilled chicken and chorizo skewer or the slow-braised boneless beef short rib ragoût. When we do make it to main courses, we find vivid flavors with the paella Valenciana with its chicken, chorizo and duckling with aromatic saffron rice. Finish the meal with the creamy caramel flan. On Thursday nights, when the flamenco guitarist casts his spell, the transformation --- make that transportation --- from Brighton to, say, Valencia is complete. Prices are reasonable. The wine menu includes standouts from Portugal, Chile and Spain.
