Vega Tapas Cafe Restaurant Review:

Vega Tapas Cafe was one of the earliest small-plates restaurants in the city, focusing on a pan-Mediterranean theme. Influences and traditions appear mixed, seemingly at random. The result is eclectic, but imaginative enough to court even the most discriminating tapas enthusiast. Food is generously portioned. Start with stuffed grape leaves with lamb, rice and mint. Jumbo Gulf shrimp are served with spicy chorizo cream, while well-seasoned lamb meatballs are paired with an apricot mint glaze. But the pièce de résistance may be the diver scallops on butternut squash purée with balsamic reduction. Nothing beats the lemon custard-filled pancakes for dessert. The wine list is an international delight, and diners appreciate the half-price wines on Monday. The dining room, bright, airy and colorful, is adorned with works by local artists in ever rotating exhibits. It’s a delightful place to sit and linger over a Mandarin martini after dinner.
