Meritage Restaurant Review: The Boston Harbor Hotel's signature restaurant is a true testament to the ambition and talent of chef Daniel Bruce. Proffered in an arty and sophisticated --- if somewhat aloof --- space overlooking Rowes Wharf, Bruce's menu lists its dishes, available in half or full portions, according to the type of wine they complement in order to facilitate sampling and pairing. For instance, if you're partial to sparkling whites, you'd do well to try oysters on the half shell with lime, tarragon and cracked pepper mignonette; if you prefer spicy reds, a dish like the sweet onion crusted roast veal tenderloin medallions with truffle oil and oyster mushrooms will suit your sip to a T. We recommend an all-day fast --- financial as well as alimentary --- so you can mix-and-match to your palate’s content, right through to the dessert samplers built around red fruit tastings, white fruit plates, nut samplings and even citrus offerings for those looking for something tart. Otherwise, better belly up to the bar for three for $10 snacks like avocado guacamole with crisp wontons; yellowfin tuna, soy and miso tartar; and golden fried shrimp with a side of sweet pineapple relish.
