Merriman's Market Cafe Restaurant Review: Smack in the middle of a resort's high-end shopping center sits an indoor-outdoor trattoria, a venture of Peter Merriman, the chef who placed Hawaii Regional cuisine on the culinary map. When you visit, do not make comparisons to his eponymous establishment in upcountry Waimea. The café is casual, and the service on the popular dining deck can at times feel rushed. Still, we love this place where local, fresh ingredients are emphasized through a creative interpretation of Italian food. We like to start with some homemade hummus and a roasted beet salad with ricotta cheese. The pastas with vine-ripened tomato sauce are perfect for the kids. Try the tagine with couscous and the fresh fish of the day. Sharing dishes is a great way to go, and the wine list features unusual wines that perfectly match the innovative fare. The café includes a deli where you can buy artisan breads, rare cheeses and house-made sausages. |
