This financial district watering hole, Seattle’s oldest steakhouse, boasts a big, boisterous bar, old-school elegance, and a hefty meat menu to match. Prime, dry-aged, corn-fed beef is grilled over Mexican mesquite charcoal, ensuring steaks and chops---also available in petite cuts---are succulent and nicely finished. Prime rib rates high, too. Some may also opt for the chicken Marsala or Dungeness crab fettuccine, but most locals know better. Appetizers are largely superfluous, although we do like the smoked sirloin carpaccio, even if steak preceded by steak might seem over the top. Salads, sandwiches, a couple of burgers, and chef’s specials vary on the lunch menu. If you must order something other than meat, the grilled catch-of-the-day is usually reliable. The wine list is long on reds with a focus on West Coast varietals, and hard on the wallet. For a sweet finale, consider a chocolate martini, a surprising original. Service is polished and professional.
