Mezzaluna Restaurant Review

: A big circular bar, walls mounted with dozens of pieces of original Italian art, pizzas from the wood-burning oven, a patio and windows that overlook the streetscape and mountain views above make this one of the most popular see-and-be-seen destinations in Aspen, especially après ski. From 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the bar, the Après Ski specials---$7 vegetable, pepperoni or cheese pizzas with $2.50 drafts of Coors Light, $4 margaritas and wines---draw huge crowds. In the evening, the room pulsates with a slick New York/L.A. kind of crowd ordering rock shrimp penne with avocado and citrus cream sauce; the peanut-dusted, rare ahi straddling shrimp-sausage hash; or the frutti de mare with linguine, wild mushrooms, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Crab cakes, sided with papaya mustard, are a popular signature starter, while the warm apple crisp dessert, dolloped with vanilla ice cream, also commands fans. Reservations are only taken for parties of six or more, so prepare for a wait at the height of the ski season.
