Michael's Pizzeria Restaurant Review

: Michael Dene, owner of Michael's on Naples Ristorante, operates this pizzeria just a few doors down from his eponymous Italian restaurant. (There's a second location in downtown Long Beach.) The bright dining room, which can get loud, boasts an eclectic color palette of white and orange, and mod artwork inspired by famous Italian movies hangs on the walls. Start with burrata and baby artichokes; its combination of creamy, earthy and salty elements awakens the palate. There are fresh salads as well, such as the namesake composition with arugula, Parmesan, shallots and balsamic vinegar. They pair well with the crispy, thin-crusted Neapolitan-style pizzas that emerge from the wood-burning oven. In addition to the pre-determined pies, guests can also customize their own. Among the former, we preferred the traditional margherita with a cloud-like covering of melted mozzarella, and a white pie topped with duck confit and fig jam. There’s even a dessert pizza with Nutella, fresh berries and homemade gelato. A small selection of Italian wines is available.
