Miyake Restaurant Review: Chef Masa Miyake's restaurant space in the Old Port is a dramatic change from his former little spot on Spring Street. You'll still find him watching each and every dish go to patrons in his sleek, modern dining room from his corner position behind the sushi bar. The atmosphere is a refined setting for his old-world-influenced Japanese cuisine, much of it composed with products sourced from the chef's farm in Freeport. It's best to order the omakase nigiri, sashimi or tasting menu to enjoy the whim of the chef. Even better is to have a saké and wine pairing with your five-course tasting menu. Dishes might include thinly sliced raw salmon served with capers, mustard vinaigrette and ohba, or a "Super Toro" tuna and avocado roll topped with diced medium toro, truffle oil, spicy sesame oil and scallions. Don’t miss out on pork belly from the seasonal menu. It's always a study in umami at its best and all dishes come out looking as attractive as they taste. Dessert might be a sampler of small bites, perhaps chocolate, and the wine and saké list has enough to choose from for any wallet.
