Momocho Restaurant Review: In a tradition-jarring step, Momocho, a self-described “mod Mex” cantina, offers artful, intense and upscale plates --- such as braised pork belly adobados, and smoked trout and crab chilaquiles. Free of sombreros, piñatas and guitar-strumming mariachi, this bi-level restaurant serves up more than a half-dozen types of fresh margaritas infused with real fruit purée in tall, skinny glasses. If taste-testing sounds particularly enjoyable, try the guacamole sampler (we recommend the smoked trout, mango and blue cheese), which arrives alongside a basket of warm, freshly-fried tortilla chips. Follow it with the pescado and pibil taquitos. If you’ve reached the end of the meal, steer clear of the clichéd fried ice cream, and instead go for the Mexican chocolate flan. With its spice and chocolate notes and sprinkling of salt, it’s the ideal finale to a very filling meal. The restaurant also offers a large selection of fine tequilas, Mexican beer and Spanish wine.
