Monarch Restaurant Review: Monarch is nestled inside the boutique Hotel ZaZa Houston in the Museum District. It’s a posh spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a see-and-be-seen Sunday brunch. The food is best enjoyed on the patio overlooking the sculpture garden of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Mecom Fountain. Starting with small plates you’ll find a rather common ahi taco and an unusual antelope carpaccio. Follow with the house salad topped with grilled peaches and then choose between the fish of the day or the 12-ounce Hereford rib-eye plated with garlic mashed potatoes and foie gras butter. A selection from the changing dessert menu vies with a glass of 18-year-old Chivas as the ideal way to end the meal. Monarch is a good restaurant for a special occasion and it makes an impression for a first date.
