When you pull up a chair at Mona's, you’ll detect a bit of Amman or Jerusalem in the air. The concessions to Western tastes are few in this modest but sparkling-clean Middle Eastern eatery, which shares space with a supermarket filled with specialties of the eastern Mediterranean. The space, a former filling station (you’d never know it) is bright and airy. The traditional Middle Eastern dishes---falafel, gyros, baba ghanouj and hummus---are done with native expertise. Marinades and seasoning mixes are well-composed, too. Lamb chops and kebabs, prepared with succulence and just the right char, are made with fresh, good-quality ingredients. For dessert, look for the classics of the region, such as baklava. The prices will put a grin on any skinflint's face.
