Mona's Cafe Restaurant Review: You’ll find a bit of Amman or Jerusalem in the air at Mona’s. Concessions to Western tastes are few in this Middle Eastern eatery, which shares space with a supermarket filled with specialties of the eastern Mediterranean. The place occupies a former filling station (you’d never know it), and is bright and airy. First-timers are wise to try the sampler plate: baba ghanouj, grape leaves, tabbouleh, falafel and kibbeh. The traditional Middle Eastern dishes --- falafel, gyros and hummus --- are done with native expertise. Marinades and seasoning mixes are well-composed, too. Lamb chops and kebabs, prepared with succulence and just the right char, are made with fresh, good-quality ingredients. For dessert, look for the classics of the region, such as baklava. The prices will put a grin on any skinflint's face. Mona’s does not serve wine or alcohol. |
