| Monsoon serves fresh, vibrant interpretations of classic Vietnamese dishes that incorporate Pacific Northwest ingredients. The elegant dining room features blond wood and stone surfaces, which tend to ramp up noise levels. Inspired by the heritage of its Vietnam-born owners, the food is artfully prepared and creatively presented. Start with la lot beef---beef-wrapped bundles of jícama, carrot, mint and basil encased in a crackling wild betel leaf---or plump spring rolls, split to reveal a generous filling of Dungeness crab and rock shrimp. We recommend the halibut steamed in a banana leaf and smothered under pale lily buds, earthy oyster mushrooms and frilly tree ears; or choose spice-rubbed Alaska king salmon steeped in green tea leaves. To experience the full range of Vietnamese dishes, be sure to order the wickedly hot green beans and/or the refreshing green papaya and mango salad shot through with aromatic Thai basil and coriander. Well-crafted desserts end the meal on a grace note. A short wine list is well suited to the occasionally fiery flavors of this sophisticated cuisine. |
