Notably upscale fare emerges from the kitchen at this old-time favorite. The menu, formerly overseen by chef Janis McLean who has now departed the stoves, may include a five-course meal with the choice of Arctic char or New York steak as the main course. But on ordinary days, the Southern-inspired menu may star such dinner fare as lamb two ways with polenta, crispy organic chicken with pancetta, black cod with lentils, and the house specialty, the crab cakes. Luncheon dishes are lighter, of course, and include a crab cake sandwich, chicken potpie, a hamburger, and grilled flatiron steak. Whatever you choose at either time, don’t miss the classic and much-loved lemon chess pie, a staple dessert here for ages. Sunday brunches include both haute and casual fare, and once again, the lemon chess pie. A fine setting for ladies who lunch, brunch, or dine in comfort. |
