Morton's The Steakhouse Restaurant Review: Morton's is a mainstay for steak connoisseurs and a destination for expense account dinners. Its reputation for serving only the finest cuts of meat --- from bone-in rib-eyes to New York strips to the mother of all cuts, the porterhouse --- is probably the reason why the chain is an international presence on the steakhouse scene. Classics such as colossal shrimp Alexander and broiled sea scallops wrapped in bacon serve as savory preludes to the big event. Entrées such as filet Diane (filet mignon and sautéed mushrooms in demi-glace mustard sauce) and double-rib lamb chops are only a couple of the carnivorous offerings. Side dishes are meant to be shared; we recommend the grilled jumbo asparagus with balsamic glaze, the sautéed wild mushrooms and the garlic green beans. Desserts are a bit perfunctory, including assorted soufflés, hot apple pie and molten milk chocolate cake. The exception is the Key lime pie. And for those who prefer to graze rather than feast, Morton's offers Bar Bites Monday through Friday. This sophisticated version of happy hour includes smaller portions of chicken goujonettes, mini-cheeseburgers, petite filet mignon sandwiches and oysters on the half shell. A notable wine list, which includes by-the-glass selections, rounds out the experience. |
