| At the end of a dumpy side street sits Nandina, a lovely Asian restaurant that seems to have splashed down from a swankier part of town. Set in a strikingly remodeled old home, complete with glass-walled waterfall and streaming brook on the patio, the menu focuses on tapas-size portions of Thai and other Asian food. Chilean sea bass with a ginger-tamari glaze might sound rather humdrum, but the fish is the texture of butter and the glaze so delicate that it seems to infuse the fish rather than coat it. Pad thai gets the royal treatment; a moist mound of noodles is riddled with tender bits of calamari, shrimp and scallops. Sushi, sashimi and California rolls in many variations are also available. Be sure to have at least one order of the grilled banana for dessert---served piping hot, a whole banana is split down the middle, filled with homemade vanilla ice cream and drizzled with a dark chocolate sauce. |
