Native Foods Cafe Restaurant Review: Native Foods Cafe offers chef-crafted, 100-percent plant-based vegan fare that often surprises newcomers with its extensive variety and flavor. This made-from-scratch cuisine appeals to both vegans and non-vegans. The chefs make their own "meats" from tempeh, seitan, tofu and soy proteins, while cheese comes from blended nuts. The menu is filled with vegan versions of burgers, nachos, subs and salads. In the "super Italian Meatball sub," seitan meatballs are smothered in marinara and caramelized onions. Blackened tacos have grilled tempeh, chipotle sauce and guacamole. There are healthy "earth bowls" with sesame kale or "chicken" in Moroccan sauce. Some dishes work better than others, like the white bean chili versus the burger that tends to fall apart, but the crisp sweet potato fries are a must. Don't skip the lavender lemonade or watermelon fresca. A notable selection of local craft beers elevates the casual dining experience even more. Desserts like the double chocolate brownies or carrot cream cheese cupcakes succeed as well.
