THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED New Mother India Restaurant Review:
This is one of the area's prettier Indian restaurants: recessed lighting lends a soft glow to the off-white walls, which are accented with well-chosen Indian art. Diners sit in high-backed dark wood chairs at large tables, while Indian classical music plays quietly in the background. The weekday luncheon buffet attracts folks from the area's high-tech firms, while a mix of well-heeled suburbanites drops in come evening. Order the Mother India Blonde Ale created just for the restaurant and start with a garlicky ginger chicken seekh kebab. There are all sorts of breads on the menu, including broccoli naan with hot peppers and whole-wheat onion paratha stuffed with onions and herbs. Veal dishes supplement faithful renditions of tandoori, curry and other familiar fare; uncommon vegetable dishes are offered, too, such as Bombay aloo (spicy potatoes) and Bhindi masala (sautéed okra with tender onions and tomatoes). The beer list is first-rate, with Indian options and many local microbrews, while the wine line-up features a limited selection of wines by the glass, half carafe and bottle. Finish with the rich amaretto cake.
