New Orleans Cake Cafe & Bakery Restaurant Review: Affectionately known in New Orleans as “The Cake Man,” Steve Himelfarb was once bound for a career in the music business, but couldn’t deny his passion for baking. He’s often found alone in his restaurant kitchen at 3 a.m. dreaming up new concoctions and perfecting those that his loyal patrons already enjoy. His Key lime cake with Key lime frosting will prove there is indeed something new under the sun in the baking world, as will a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting that almost screams “New Orleans.” The pièce de résistance may be the pecan praline cake with butter cream frosting. The café serves breakfast featuring all the traditional items, plus good bagels, panini and even french toast made with challah and topped with orange pecan syrup. Lunch is light and easy with salads and sandwiches, all on house-made bread. Dine outside and watch the colorful Faubourg Marigny street culture. |
