Mark Soyka, genius proprietor of The News Café in South Beach, has done it again. His enormous picturesque restaurant (once occupied by the luminous Brasserie Le Coze), has given frustrated commercial Coconut Grove a bustling center, a soul. However, the food is just okay: burgers, sandwiches, salads, breakfast items and the like. The service is adequate. So what’s Soyka’s secret? Must be the music, wonderfully selected jazz. Or is it the bar, where everyone is always welcome and there’s always one empty stool? That’s not it, either. It’s the fact that the engaging person seated at the next table could be either a prince of an obscure country, a supermodel, or a busboy from the restaurant across the street.
