Nick's Crispy Tacos Restaurant Review: Nick Fasanella isn't your typical taqueria owner---he graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and wound up the chef for a private yacht. Frequent trips to South America and Mexico introduced him to the flavors of Latin street food and he became so enamored with those flavors that he decided to open his own restaurant to celebrate them. Nick's Crispy Tacos is in the funky space that houses Harry Denton's Rouge nightclub, and word of his delicious tacos spread like wildfire. Fasanella uses local, top-quality ingredients including meat from Niman Ranch and poultry from Fulton Valley, and he makes his salsa and guacamole in-house. Try the pescado taco---Baja-style fried fish wrapped in a warm corn tortilla and topped with salsa and lime mayonnaise---the outside is light and crisp while the white flesh inside remains moist and flaky. But regulars will tell you that the carnitas taco Nick's Way---braised shredded pork with pico de gallo and pinto beans in a hard shell tucked into a soft tortilla with guacamole and Jack cheese---is the ringer, and quite possibly the best taco in town. |
