Nobu Restaurant Review

: For the better part of three decades, namesake Noboru Kidera has been meeting his goal of bringing a Japanese-style experience to land-locked St. Louisans. He’s adept at picking out fine material for his sashimi --- some of it flown in directly from Japan --- and carving it with skill. Sushi spans the spectrum, from common rolls to the exciting tastes of smooth sea urchin, sweet tuna, salty red caviar and the unmistakable flavor of salmon. Among appetizers, the tempura is dry, crisp and nicely done. An extensive dinner menu offers grilled and fried beef, chicken and pork, showing Kidera’s versatility and intriguing ingredient combinations like Japanese-style rice with chicken, black mushrooms, bamboo shoots and yam noodles. Wine and saké pairings keep pace with the diverse menu. Red beans, served either in gelatin or ice cream form, are a satisfying, traditional end to the meal.
