Chef Ryan LaRoche presides at this Park Hyatt Chicago restaurant, now a more approachable, casual version of its former self, offering seasonal cuisine, cool cocktails and fine wines. The dining room’s sought-after tables next to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking Michigan Avenue continue to symbolize NoMI’s reputation as a romantic destination, while other elegant touches like leather-bound menus keep the sophistication level high. The menu is broken down, page by page, like a short novel into easy-to-navigate sections (oysters and starters, salads and soups, cheeses, charcuterie, mains) so diners can create their own custom meal, whether it’s a light bite or a full five-course experience. NoMI’s signature sushi and sashimi appetizer remains, with its spicy tuna, sea-fresh salmon and delicate yellowtail. Also on tap: creamy burrata salad with shaved heirloom apple and honey-pine nut vinaigrette; linguine with tomato, rocket and olive butter; and roasted pheasant with black truffle dumplings. “Simply Prepared” means just that (lobster and butter, strip steak and foraged mushrooms), while larger mains---like an entire foie gras lobe and stuffed lamb shoulder---are meant for sharing. Desserts by Meg Galus range from ice creams to brioche beignets to tarts.
