If ever there was a summertime place to hang out with a beer and a slice, it would be NYPC (formerly NYPD Pizza) in Quarry Village. The interior is minimal and the service slow, but you can’t beat it for a lazy afternoon on the terrace listening to the live local bands that play before sunset. Order the garlic knots (we always get a large order), which, on Wednesdays, are free to locals who purchase another dish off the menu. The New York-style, thin-crust pizzas are average, but when you’ve got kids in tow and don’t want to break the bank (kids eat free on Mondays), they're perfectly reliable. Better still are the pasta dishes or the tasty veggie "roll" with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and mozzarella tucked inside a tube of crisp pizza dough. If you're hankering for a pie during cold snaps, opt for take-out, because the joint rarely cranks up the heater.
