| This Spanish bistro is located in the historic Loveless Building, across from the Harvard Exit Theatre. The dining room is like a tiny jewel box, with enchanting low lighting and Russian fairytale murals from the 1930s; but don’t expect to have intimate conversation, as the noise level is high. Chef-owner Philippe Thomelin offers an original Mediterranean-inspired menu that puts a new spin on small plates and tapas, complemented by a reasonably priced wine list and friendly service. Given the generous portions, two can easily share several starters and one larger plate. Start with the grilled pear and Belgian endive salad enhanced with shallots, walnuts and blue cheese. Hand-rolled potato gnocchi tossed with wild mushrooms and shaved manchego cheese is another dish to target, as is the seared scallops paired with crispy saffron-scented spaghetti squash and a pepper beurre blanc. Finish with the moist olive oil cake and honey-flavored ice cream. |
