Olives Restaurant Review: Boston chef Todd English is seemingly everywhere these days, literally traveling the world for his own cooking show and appearing on other cooking and food-oriented shows. His sophisticated culinary touch is evident in this casual but elegant space featuring dark woods, mosaic floor tiles, an 18-seat bar and a patio overlooking Lake Bellagio with its spectacular fountain show. His menu has decidedly Mediterranean flair with decadent accents, beginning with such signature offerings as beef carpaccio with crisp, boldly flavored Roquefort polenta and cipollini onions. Try the crusty flatbreads with creative toppings such as herb-roasted portobello mushroom-wild mushroom purée, Fontina cheese and white truffle oil. We also recommend the Boston Bibb salad with Maytag blue cheese, shaved white onions and toasted walnut dressing; or indulge in a rich pasta. Entrées include the sirloin layered with flavors from Tuscan bruschetta, caramelized onions, country ham, Roquefort cream and sweet-and-sour shiitake glaze. Save room for the vanilla bean crème brûlée with blackberry jam and hazelnut cake.
