OnOn is the type of restaurant affectionately called in Honolulu a greasy chopstick. More than 100 menu items, all Chinese, all glistening with oil and redolent with spices like star anise. We like the hot pots, like roast pork with tofu or chicken with black mushrooms or beef stew (yes, we know, only in Hawaii do Chinese restaurants serve beef stew). Also wonderful is the stuffed eggplant and the seafood with ginger. Mirrored walls, Formica tables, stacking chairs, brusque service---your basic Chinese restaurant, but better than your basic Chinese food.
