| Ola Fendert, the longtime chef for some of the most popular restaurants in San Francisco---Chez Papa, Baraka and Plouf---finally has his own place, appropriately named Oola Restaurant & Bar. On the appetizer side don't miss the shrimp and scallop ceviche or the fig tart, with chunky pieces of fig atop a puff pastry base enlivened with blue cheese and onion jam. The rack of lamb with a daube, white beans and bacon is fine; the butterfish, however, is overwhelmed by the bold Mediterranean sauce. The baby-back ribs are known for their addictive qualities, second only to the truffle-and-Parmesan fries. For dessert, pass up the concoction that involves peanut butter, chocolate ice cream, ground Oreos and bananas---it is not a marriage made in heaven. Due to its late hours, the bar scene packs in an industry crowd as the night goes on. |
