Orchid Cafe Restaurant Review: Maria Nguyen's handsome little restaurant is cozy, seating just 80 in a room with curry-colored walls, well-chosen artwork and servers who don Thai silk attire. Most dishes can be fashioned from chicken, beef, pork or tofu and are customized in flavor, be it sweet, sour, hot or mild. Notable dishes include a seafood combination with lemon grass; green curry with eggplant, mushrooms and green peas; and yum duck, a room-temperature salad with slivers of ginger, bean sprouts, peanuts and onions. During dinner, plates include decorative sculptured vegetables, such as a beet or turnip masquerading as a rose. A fine ending is the soothing house-made coconut ice cream. |
