Chef Cindy Hutson and partner Delius Shirley continue to perform culinary miracles with their New World-Caribbean cuisine on Miracle Mile. This is the sort of restaurant that South Florida should have more of, meaning with food that highlights the fresh, tropical ingredients indigenous not just to nearby islands, but to this region as well---along with the occasional Asian and South American accent. A lush, tropical décor is the backdrop for stimulating specialties such as double pork chop with jerk dusting and cool cap of mango and papaya, and Bahamian black grouper glazed with guava and Bacardi rum sauce. Ortanique has branched out to Vegas, Baltimore and D.C., but somehow the snapper ceviche and Caribbean bouillabaisse can't possibly taste as sunny there as they do here. A wonderful wine list contains a surprising number of bottles that match up flawlessly with the semi-spicy fare.
