Osteria Applausi Restaurant Review: Osteria Applausi, one of three restaurants under the Marchetti-Tarantino family duo of restaurateurs, has become a neighborhood favorite for locals seeking well prepared Italian regional cuisine. What also distinguishes the restaurant from its competitors is pasta made fresh six days a week by the owner, Maria Marchetti. Enjoy appetizers such as the grilled Italian sausage atop sautéed broccoli rabe, and the couscous flan with shrimp, cherry tomatoes and onions with sliced grilled zucchini. Then one of Marchetti's homemade pastas is a must. We suggest the fettuccine with fava bean purée and wild mushrooms, or lobster and crab meat-filled ravioli with cherry tomatoes, crab meat ragoût and a touch of cream. House specialties such as the classic l'osso buco con risotto are also available. The wine list is dominated by Italian regional whites and reds, along with selections by the glass. The authentic Italian dining experience would not be complete without desserts like tartufo, a ball of vanilla and chocolate gelato covered in cocoa powder and caramelized hazelnuts, or the flaky sporcamusi alla crema, puff pastry filled with Chantilly cream.
