Osteria Applausi Restaurant Review

: Osteria Applausi, one of three restaurants under the Marchetti-Tarantino family duo of restaurateurs, has become a neighborhood favorite for locals seeking well prepared Italian regional cuisine. What also distinguishes the restaurant from its competitors is pasta made fresh six days a week by the owner, Maria Marchetti. Enjoy appetizers such as tender grilled squid drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, lemon and fresh herbs, and pan-seared sea scallops wrapped with speck and served over a delicate mixed berries marmalade. Then one of Marchetti's homemade pastas is a must. We suggest the potato gnocchi with fresh tomatoes and red peppers purée, or go for a classic such as a puttanesca with anchovies, olives, capers and fresh tomato sauce. Do not overlook the house specialties, particularly a delicate boneless rainbow trout sautéed with fresh herbs, lemon and white wine. The wine list is dominated by Italian regional whites and reds, along with selections by the glass. The authentic Italian dining experience would not be complete without desserts like tartufo, a ball of vanilla and chocolate gelato covered in cocoa powder and caramelized hazelnuts, or the flaky puff pastry filled with Chantilly cream.
