Osteria Applausi Restaurant Review: Osteria Applausi, one of three restaurants under the Marchetti-Tarantino family duo of restaurateurs, is a neighborhood favorite for locals seeking well-prepared Italian regional cuisine. What also distinguishes the restaurant from its competitors is pasta made fresh six days a week by the owner, Maria Marchetti. Enjoy appetizers such as grilled squid drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and seasoned with lemon and fresh herbs, and a delicate couscous flan tossed with shrimp, cherry tomatoes and onions and accompanied by sliced grilled zucchini. Then, one of Marchetti's homemade pastas is a must. We suggest a linguine with cordoncelli mushrooms and a fava bean purée. Do not overlook the house specialties that include a baked Mediterranean sea bass filet served with thinly sliced potatoes, tomatoes, onions and white wine. The wine list is dominated by Italian regional whites and reds, along with selections by the glass ranging from Pinot Grigio to Montepulciano. For dessert, there’s panna cotta in flavors that change weekly, and whipped cream-filled cream puffs drizzled with a warm chocolate sauce.
