A charming place for tasty Italian, Osteria Panevino has a colorful, warm ambience with exposed-brick walls, eye-catching art, chalkboard menus and pretty table settings. Start with something from the mozzarella pantry, like burrata with asparagus or bruschettas with olive tapenade or prosciutto di Parma. The menu includes vegetable-stuffed focaccia pizzas, traditional pizzas and a slew of attractive pastas, as well as more formal dishes such as osso buco, roasted pork loin stuffed with hearty ingredients, and Tuscan-style grilled boneless rib-eye steak with porcini mushroom sauce. A nice fish choice is the pan-seared mahi mahi, with red and yellow bell pepper and lime coulis over spinach risotto. The sidewalk terrace is always busy; come early if you want a ringside seat for the Gaslamp's best people-watching.
