Pacific Hideaway, Huntington Beach, CA

Pacific Hideaway Restaurant Review

: Perched on the second floor of the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel, this restaurant is technically located along The Strand in downtown Huntington Beach. Yet its elevated locale and relaxed, airy space feels miles away from Main Street’s rowdy din. The light blue and dark orange color scheme, the smattering of front porch/patio furniture, and outdoor balcony result in a sly Coastal Carolina if not Caribbean ambience, providing a unique spin on the nearby beach scene --- not to mention a nice spot for a craft cocktail. Executive chef JT Walker adds to the experience by creating a globally inspired contemporary menu that draws heavy influence from Asian and Latin American flavors. The motifs shine throughout the compact lineup, whether it’s straightforward fare like the Korean beef tacos and the refreshing mango and jícama-based street cart salad or more advanced share plates such as the house-made Laos sausage served with crispy sticky rice and pickled garlic. Generous mains like beer can game hen with black bean purée demonstrate Walker’s skill with more traditional components. For dessert, the dark chocolate budino is a must. The post-surf crowd can swing by each morning and dig into brunch items, perhaps the quinoa and peanut butter porridge.
