| Rising grandly below Magnolia Bluff next to the yacht-filled Elliot Bay Marina, Palisade’s curving wall of windows frames a view that embraces the Seattle skyline, its busy port, the jagged Olympic Mountains, and occasionally even Mt. Rainier. Inside, footbridges traverse tranquil saltwater tide pools to a tiered dining room warmed by dark koa wood. Tiny white lights twinkle in tall trees under the domed ceiling hung with enormous blown-glass sculptures reminiscent of coral reefs. The food is just as showy as the space. Begin with the pupu platter, the silky seafood chowder, or Dungeness crab cakes edged with Thai plum sauce. Fish dominates the fresh sheet and it's often served gussied up, such as salmon stuffed with mushrooms, sage and Parmesan, or mahi mahi in a curry-soy marinade with beurre blanc and banana-papaya chutney. For something less complex, try the crab-stuffed halibut or the seafood in a rich lobster sauce. Meat-lovers will enjoy the juicy steaks more than the charred rack of lamb. Desserts hold their own amidst all this flamboyance. During Sunday brunch, an opulent buffet features banana-macadamia nut-sourdough griddle cakes flipped to order. |
