Paloma’s interior boasts booths, tables and a small bar amid burnt orange walls and a festive family vibe. About 100 tequilas by the shot and bottle are available, meaning guests can find something they might like in any price category. Appetizers range from empanadas de camaron, two shrimp-filled turnovers topped with a mango habanero sauce, to halibut ceviche mixed with a small amount of pineapple and accompanied by thin, crisp-fried plantains. But it’s the entrées that offer distinctive fare, as in the chile en nogada: a pasilla chile stuffed with walnuts, pine nuts, ground beef, peaches and spices, topped with a creamy and slightly sweet sauce and dotted with pomegranate seeds. Enchiladas Paloma, shrimp and cheese enchiladas finished with smoky chipotle sauce and served with salad and rice, is the restaurant’s go-to dish. The signature dessert is a moist corn cake plated with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, sliced strawberries and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
