Pastaria Restaurant Review

: The bar for Pastaria was set higher than the top of its shiny tower digs thanks to Gerard Craft. Because there are no reservations for parties of fewer than six, you’ll probably have to start with a cocktail or local brew at the bar. But the food is worth the wait. Craft uses vegetables extensively and creatively, with appetizers like shaved kale with anchovy dressing and lemony, garlicky radishes on warm, crusty bread. Toppings of bacon, pecorino and chili make for a fiery pizza. But the pastas must be sampled: they are skillfully cooked and well sauced. Our favorites are the simple strands of chitarra with olive oil, garlic and chili, and the pistachio ravioli in lemon brown butter. Servers are still learning to confidently recommend wines, a necessity for an all-Italian list with a large diversity of regions and varietals. Craft bills Pastaria as family-friendly, but most of the clientele is typically well-heeled and professional. Still, under the influence of the food and a dish of gelato (with flavors like salt caramel and basil), everyone stays mellow.
