Pelagia Restaurant Review

: As the on-site restaurant in the stylish Renaissance Tampa International Plaza Hotel, Pelagia is faced with the usual expectations from guests and strives to prove quickly that its menus aren't hotel-typical. The stylish and modern décor helps, but serving three meals a day is a challenge for any kitchen. Breakfasts, for example, can be off the menu or at the buffet line. Lunch teasers include crunchy stuffed olives with three-meat fillings and shrimp Louis served with baby greens and balsamic. There's also pizza for lunch, with buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, dried tomatoes and baby arugula. A vegetarian calzone is often offered as well, with roasted vegetables and Taleggio. The dinner menu includes some carry-overs from lunch but also changes frequently. Be sure to ask about the specials from executive chef Andrew Basch. Not-often-found starters include octopus cured with garlic and mint, and an entrée of ravioli with braised veal, ricotta and spinach.
