Penelope's Cafe, Books & Gallery Restaurant Review: A combination café, bookstore and art gallery, this converted bungalow is a real charmer and a hit with the Junior League crowd. Tables are generously spaced, and the books and art give the place the feel of a cozy home, complete with a fireplace and a shady, umbrella-laden patio. Salads and sandwiches are the main attraction, featuring everything from a reasonably authentic Niçoise to classic and hearty pastrami on rye. Healthier options include a vegetable sandwich, turkey chili with corn and black beans, and granola with yogurt and seasonal fruit, while those wanting to indulge can enjoy Belgian-style waffles, thick New England clam chowder, and plenty of sweets and pastries. In the fall, the patio is particularly beautiful, when the leaves on the surrounding trees change colors. |
