The People's Bar-B-Que Restaurant Review: People’s Bar-B-Que has been oak-firing meat to a smoky turn for over 45 years. Such Caribbean specialties as oxtail and soul foods like deep Southern ham shanks may appear, but we go to enjoy tender barbecue (ribs, pork, beef brisket or chicken), slathered with the joint's tangy mustard-based sauce. Crisp-coated fried chicken is also first-rate, as is the Sunday dinner and Thursday lunch special of baked chicken with dressing. Choose from an unusually long list of soulful sides (collard greens, baked beans, okra-tomato stew and more), and finish with a moist slab of old-fashioned all-American layer cake. No shortage of that sweet Southern hospitality here, from big portions of good eats, including what might be Miami's best cornbread, to generous servings of smiles from the friendly, if sometimes slow, staff. |
