| Look in the dictionary under old-fashioned neighborhood restaurant and a picture of Perring Place is what you'll find. There's no atmosphere to speak of, just cozy booths, friendly waitresses, well-mixed cocktails, and straightforward cooking. The menu roams judiciously from center-cut pork chops with applesauce to calf’s liver with onions to broiled rockfish and back again, with a little something for just about any taste in between. The crab cakes are very good, the prime rib is often topnotch, and if soft-shell crabs are in season, there are none better. The patrons are graying somewhat as the years progress, but this suburban strip mall dweller at the city's edge still draws in a Saturday night and after-church crowd. |
